health care equality
The health care system in Sweden is not equal. Research shows that education level and ethnicity affect the risk of dying from a treatable disease. Other factors connected to the care given are age, gender, abilities and relationship status.
In order to address the issue, Högskolan Väst (University West) opened a clinical learning center focusing on educating nurse students in norm aware care.
Högskolan Väst asked us to help them spread the word about the faculty in order to attract more students to apply and to raise public awareness as well as influence other universities to start running courses in norm aware care.
We responded by creating the concept “Är du tillräckligt normal?” (Are you normal enough?). The question “Are you normal enough?” was referring to a variety of statements such as “… to survive the next pandemic” and “… to get treatment for your cancer”. The bold questions and the use of the word you were meant to stir up feelings for the recipient and start reflecting on the fact that the health care system is not equally accessible for everyone.
